Belgium isn't only a gorgeous country with magnificent architecture and rich history, but also the country where you'll try delicious food. I'm sure many tourists would really like to taste street food. I wasn't an exception, and in fact i attempted out two of the foremost popular dishes – Belgian waffles and frites (fried potatoes) sold in special kiosks.
Frites

In Belgium fries call frituurs, frites or pommes frites, so please don't call it french-fried potatoes . Belgians began to fry potatoes within the late 1600th. it's believed the first idea came from the Meuse Valley, where people caught and fried small fish from the river. because the river froze during winter, they began to fry potatoes instead. Since then, frites became extremely popular and much of little kiosks (friteria or fritcote) have appeared within the country.
Belgian frites are prepared consistent with a special recipe. Potatoes, cut quite thick and strips shouldn't be longer than 10 cm. For frying they use fat rather than oil and most frequently is beef fat. the method is administered in two approaches. First, the slices are dipped in less heated fat and cooked well inside than are cooled down. Next, a warmer processing is performed, during which a crispy crust appears.
Also, there an enormous sort of sauces. hottest and classic is mayonnaise.
Twice a year Belgians celebrate the Fritkot Festival. During such events, many competitions are held: the simplest packaging design for frites or voting for the foremost delicious potatoes. The atmosphere is incredible!
Waffles

Waffles are another very fashionable street food in Belgium. it's believed that waffles within the country first began to cook within the XII-XIII centuries. However, they received world recognition and recognition much later, in 1958 at Expo 58 in Brussels.
There are many various sorts of waffles in Belgium, but two of them are especially famous: Brussels Waffles (Gaufre de Bruxelles) and Liège Waffles (Gaufre de chasse).
Brussels Waffles (Gaufre de Bruxelles) are made up of an egg-white-leavened or yeast-leavened batter. they're lighter, crisper and have larger pockets. they're served with granulated sugar topping, topping , fruits or chocolate spread.
The Liège Waffles (Gaufre de chasse) made up of a brioche dough , top with sugar which caramelize when baked. The Liège waffles have alittle shape and appearance more sort of a cookie. they're a richer, denser and sweeter.
Both waffles are very fashionable and may be found everywhere: street kiosks, small cafes, pastry shops and must be included in restaurant menus also .
I hope you'll attempt to enjoy the road food in Belgium.
Bon appetite!
